Good Faith Estimates
Overview: Under current U.S. law, patients have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) for the expected charges of any non-emergency healthcare services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
For patients who aren’t using health insurance or who don’t have health insurance, health care providers are required to provide a good faith estimate of the expected charges for scheduled medical services, including psychotherapy services.
You have the right to ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a GFE before you schedule a service. You will receive a GFE upon request or if you schedule services at least three business days in advance.
A good faith estimate might not include:
Items or services related to your care that are scheduled separately, like pre-surgery appointments, or physical therapy in the weeks after surgery.
Items or services related to your care that will be provided by another provider or facility.
Additional items or services that your doctor didn’t anticipate before providing care.
If a patient receives a bill that is at least $400 more than the Good Faith Estimate, the patient may dispute the bill.
For more information about Good Faith Estimates, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
For Current Patients, please refer to the “Office Policies and Consent to Treatment” that you reviewed and signed regarding the fees for services (including therapy and other services) you receive from your provider, Dr. Lin. Additional information or estimates will be provided upon request.
